Paruppu Keerai – Dal Spinach

Dal spinach is a simple but healthy South Indian dish which can be taken along with rice/chappathy. It is good for health and children will like them.

  • Keerai leaves a big bunch
  • Toor Dal 1/4 cup
  • Coconut 1/4 cup
  • Dry Red Chilly 1
  • Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water 1 cup or little more
  • To temper:
  • Coconut oil 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Urad dal 1 tsp
  • few curry leaves
  • Dry Red Chilly 1
  • Asafoetida 1/4 Tsp

Keerai Kootu | Greens With Toor Dal बनाने की विधि ( Keerai Kootu | Greens With Toor Dal Banane Ki Vidhi Hindi Me )

  1. Wash and clean the Keerai Leaves in running water and keep aside.
  2. Take a pressure cooker add the toor dal and pressure cook for 5 mins. Remove and mash the dal and keep aside.
  3. Grind the coconut, cumin and red chilli to a fine paste and keep aside.
  4. Bring 1/2 cup of water to boil and quickly blanch the leaves with some salt for 3-5 mins.
  5. Take off the leaves and reserve the water.
  6. Once cooled, mash the leaves by traditional pestle or gently pulse in a blender.
  7. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  8. Add the mustard seeds and let it crackle.
  9. Add urad dal, red chilli, curry leaves and asafoetida and saute for a min.
  10. Add the coconut paste , salt, mashed dal and cook around 5 minutes.
  11. Add the mashed keerai and cook for 2-3 mins and take off the heat.

टिप:You can also make this dish with any green leaves like palak, Amaranthus etc
